A reissue of the 2010 collection that brought together for the first time the tracks of Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett on one compilation. David Gilmour, who originally worked on Syd Barrett's two solo albums, as co-producer of The Madcap Laughs and as producer of Barrett, was the executive producer for the album. Damon Iddins and Andy Jackson at Astoria Studios remixed five tracks including 'Octopus', 'She Took A Long Cool Look', 'Dominoes' and 'Here I Go', with David Gilmour adding bass guitar to the last track. Pink Floyd's 'Matilda Mother' also received a fresh 2010 mix.

Syd Barrett's phoenix continues to ascend with Introduction to Syd Barrett. The inclusion of Syd's songs written & performed by PINK FLOYD is wise (although I would have liked "Astronomy Domine," too). The version of "Octopus" is also a refreshing addition. The graphics of the CD slip case are great, and the added booklet with song lyrics complements the whole. I hope that this new collection of Syd's classics finds a whole new audience of Syd Barrett enthusiasts.

I've not ever heard the 2010 issue of this compilation to compare, but I'm very pleased with this 2023 reissue on CD. The sound quality is excellent: balanced in the tonal range and well-mastered. I really enjoy the 2010 mixes. They complement the original versions. I have several versions of "Bike," stereo, mono, from CDs and vinyl. To my ears, the version on this reissue of 'An Introduction...' reveals more details and has the best sound quality of all. I highly recommend.

I like the 2010 original. Why buy this one ??? (I'm asking seriously, not rhetorically.) Is there something different/added/enhanced/better ???
